TAPS IN HONORED GLORY VIDEO

A special ceremony commemorating the Centennial of Taps at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier took place on Sunday November 7, 2021 at 10:00 am in the Tanner Amphitheater (Old Amphitheater) at Arlington National Cemetery. Taps For Veterans coordinated with Arlington National Cemetery, The United States Army Band (Pershing’s Own) , Military District of Washington, and The Society of the Honor Guard, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to commemorate the Centennial.

The day’s events included a ceremony at 10:00 a.m. in the Tanner Amphitheater, the placing of wreaths at the graves of three Army buglers at 11:30 and a formal wreath laying ceremony at 1:15 p.m. at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The wreath was presented by the family of Sergeant Frank Witchey, the first bugler to sound Taps at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This program is coordinated by Jari Villanueva, Master Sergeant (retired) and TAPS FOR VETERANS.Guest speakers included Gavin McIlvenna, Sergeant Major (retired), President, Society of the Honor Guard, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Jo Ann Maitland, National President, American Gold Star Mothers and Edwin Fountain former member of The World War I Centennial Commission. The ceremony ended with a massed performance of Taps by buglers from across the nation who have gathered to observe the Centennial.
